Around 60 Muslims of Karachaevo-Cherkessia Will Go On a Pilgrimage (Hadj) To Mecca This Year

KARACHAEVO-CHERKESSIA, 21 December, CaucasusTimes. Around 60 Muslims from Karachaevo-Cherkessia went on a pilgrimage to Mecca to perform hadj – that is, sacred duty for all Islam believers.

Representatives of Ecclesiastic Office of Muslims of Karachaevo-Cherkessia and Stavropol Region informed CaucasusTimes correspondent that Mustafa Batdyev, President of Karachaevo-Cherkessia provided financial support to the group of pilgrims.

This year 25 thousand dollars were alloted to pilgrims for going on a pilgrimage.

According to the presidential press service, same financial support was provided to Orthodox believers for going on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem at Easter this year.

The project seeks to become a catalyst for building a strong civil society and defending democratic values, helping to train new professional journalists and fostering international cooperation.
