City court hands down first verdict on murder case

KARACHAY-CHERKESSIA, February 18, Caucasus Times – The city court has handed down today its first verdict in the trial of a murder case of seven local businessmen. The judges convicted former police detective Kamal Veziyev of abusing of his office aiding arrested suspects to avoid responsibility and sentenced him to four-year term imprisonment and debarred of service in the law-enforcement agencies.

At total dozens suspects have been accused of the slaughter committed on October 11, last year. The Supreme Court of Karachay-Cherkessia is to appoint the date of the next trial of charges against sixteen defendants.

The project seeks to become a catalyst for building a strong civil society and defending democratic values, helping to train new professional journalists and fostering international cooperation.
