Georgian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Resigns

Prague, December 3, Caucasus Times. Georgian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Tea Maisuradze announced her resignation on Tuesday evening. According to the Czech website Novinky.cz, the diplomat wrote on her social media page that she believes in her country’s future within Euro-Atlantic structures and the European Union. With this move, Tea Maisuradze joined other colleagues in protesting against the anti-European course of the ruling “Georgian Dream” party.

“It has been a great honor for me to serve my country’s national interests for almost two decades, supporting its European and Euro-Atlantic integration while safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Maisuradze stated.

Previously, other Georgian diplomats working in European diplomatic missions took similar steps. According to Georgian media, these resignations were a protest against the policy of the ruling “Georgian Dream” party, which is accused of sabotaging negotiations with Brussels on Georgia’s EU accession.

Protests in Georgia erupted after parliamentary elections in which the pro-Russian “Georgian Dream” party claimed a decisive victory. Opposition parties and Western countries argue that the elections were marred by significant irregularities. Opposition parties refuse to recognize the results, and their members are declining to take parliamentary seats.
