Hundreds of locals storm Russian military quarters

DAGESTAN, November 9, Caucasus Times – On Saturday at least two hundred angry locals of Botlikh district protesting the decision of authorities to construct a residential compound for Russian militaries on the lands of local community stormed the construction area demolishing objects and damaged building equipments, the district administration office told Caucasus Times correspondent.

The angry people said the military settlement construction agreement between the Russian Defense Ministry and the republic’s authorities had been made without their consent.

After the incident several representatives of Botlikh district administration have had a meeting in Makhachkala with governor Mohammedali Mohammedov and prime minister Atai Aliyev. As a result the officials have agreed to offer local people compensatory money for the community’s lands.

We aim to strengthen the region’s informational sovereignty by expanding access to truthful sources and raising media literacy. At the same time, we support the development of national languages as key elements of identity and cultural heritage, encouraging public discussion and engagement. The project seeks to become a catalyst for building a strong civil society and defending democratic values, helping to train new professional journalists and fostering international cooperation.
