In twelve years the number of TB cases increased significantly

KARACHAY-CHERKESSIA, March 24, Caucasus Times – In recent twelve years, according to the regional health department, the number of those infected with tuberculosis (TB) has increased by 79,3 percent or 2600 cases of TB infection.

On the eve of the International Day for Elimination of Tuberculosis the Ministry of Health reports significant growth of TB infection among children, exceeding the average rate for the country at least 30 percent. Among teenagers the number of TB cases reported increased 42 percent. According to the Ministry officials the major factor that contributed to the current increase of TB cases was insufficient financing of the anti-tuberculosis program in the republic.

The project seeks to become a catalyst for building a strong civil society and defending democratic values, helping to train new professional journalists and fostering international cooperation.
