“Memorial” supports the dismissal of the Head of Interior Ministry of Kabardino-Balkaria

MOSCOW, 21 March, Caucasus Times. Human rights center “Memorial” is considering the dismissal of the Interior Minister of Kabardino-Balkaria Lieutenant General Khachim Shogenov as a step in the right direction.

Earlier “Memorial” claimed that in the course of the fight “against extremism and terrorism” law enforcement agencies of Kabardino-Balkaria, in the first place republican Interior Ministry, resorted to wide scale repressions against wide cirle of Muslim believers, which escalated the violance in the republic. “Khachim Shogenov personally bears a great deal of responsibility for that”, – press release of “Memorial” Center is indicating.

“Memorial” Center expressed its hope that newly appointed Interior Minister of Kabardino-Balkaria Yurii Tomchak will be able to put the actions of the republican militia into the legal framework.

We strive to engage audiences of all ages, with a particular emphasis on young people and residents of remote regions, offering them digital content in their native languages. Goal Our main goal is to promote the development and sustainability of independent media in Central Asia and the Caucasus. We aim to strengthen the region’s informational sovereignty by expanding access to truthful sources and raising media literacy. At the same time, we support the development of national languages as key elements of identity and cultural heritage, encouraging public discussion and engagement. The project seeks to become a catalyst for building a strong civil society and defending democratic values, helping to train new professional journalists and fostering international cooperation.
