Municipal government sues local legislature

ADYGEIYA, October 22, Caucasus Times – The republic’s court of arbitration is hearing a claim of Maykop municipality to annul the action of legislature’s audit committee.
First hearing of the case was held yesterday. Local lawmakers blamed misappropriation and embezzlement of $ 3.4 million on the city major and municipality according to the committee report.
The judge, considering the case, Zaur Shebzukhov ruled an examination of the city budget spending to be conducted by an independent auditor.
The audit chamber of the parliament said the examination of municipality accounts had been carried out according to legislation, while the city government claimed the lawmakers went beyond the limits of their authority.
At total the city budget for 2004 is estimated at about $ 24 millions. The committee had detected misappropriation of $ 3.5 million in the first half of this year.

We aim to strengthen the region’s informational sovereignty by expanding access to truthful sources and raising media literacy. At the same time, we support the development of national languages as key elements of identity and cultural heritage, encouraging public discussion and engagement. The project seeks to become a catalyst for building a strong civil society and defending democratic values, helping to train new professional journalists and fostering international cooperation.
