Police arrest a local, allegedly a veteran of Mr. Basayev’s cell

DAGESTAN, February 4, Caucasus Times – A local resident detained today in Novolaksky district was allegedly a member of militant groups that attacked several official buildings in Shelkovskoi district back in 1999, Caucasus Times correspondent reports citing the Interior Ministry press service.

Ali Dibirov, 31, a native of Shushiya of Novolak, was siezed in a joint operation of the district police and task forces of “Dagestan Border”. The team officers found in the detainee’s house a Kalashnikov assault rifle a pistol.

Goal Our main goal is to promote the development and sustainability of independent media in Central Asia and the Caucasus. We aim to strengthen the region’s informational sovereignty by expanding access to truthful sources and raising media literacy. At the same time, we support the development of national languages as key elements of identity and cultural heritage, encouraging public discussion and engagement. The project seeks to become a catalyst for building a strong civil society and defending democratic values, helping to train new professional journalists and fostering international cooperation.
