Police storm and destroy militants, civilian casualties reported in a firefight in Khasavyurt
DAGESTAN, April 6, Caucasus Times – Two insurgent leaders, the so-called Emirs of Gudermez and Khasavyurt were destroyed in a joint special operation of the law enforcement agencies of Chechnya and Dagestan, the regional Interior Ministry press service told Caucasus Times correspondent.
The law enforcement agencies had had an information that the two insurgents were hiding in an apartment house in Zarechnaya street in Khasavyurt of Dagestan. The poilce forces stormed the building yesterday killing the militants believed to be responsible for several terror attacks and grave crimes committed in Dagestan an Chechnya. The criminals were identified as Abdul Kadyrov and Anvar Visayev, 32, wanted by the federal police since November 2003, the Interior Ministry said.
A police officer was injured in the combat, Aitemir Salimgereyev, chief of Khasavyurt police department said in his interview with journalists. Regretfully, two civilians who lived in the house, a woman and her 3-year-old child suffered during the storm. The child died, his mother wounded, the police chief was quoted as saying.
The city Prosecutor’s Office will be investigating into the incident that has caused the death and injuries of civilians and the law enforcement officer.
