Two big gas pipelines will be built in Karachaevo-Cherkessia

KARACHAEVO-CHERKESSIA, 30 November, Caucasus Times. Mustafa Batdyev, President of Karachaevo-Cherkessia has signed a contract with the First Deputy Chairman of Gazprom Alexandr Ryazanov which presupposes a construction of two big gas pipelines on the territory of republic – Karachaevsk-Dombai and Zelenchuk-Pregradnaya.

Source in Presidential Administration informed Caucasus Times correspondent that construction is scheduled to start in summer 2006 when all necessary documentation will be prepared.

“Construction of gas pipelines would help to solve long-term problem with the gasification of a number of settlements and would attract additional investments to spa areas of Karachaevo-Cherkessia”, – source in the presidential administartion noted.

The fact that Karachaevo-Cherkessia was regularly paying for the use of gas without any debts during last years played an important role in signing the contract. Also, more than 70 million rubles had been paid to Gazprom from the republican budget as a compensation for the earlier debts.
