President of Karachay-Cherkessia will not step down

KARACHAY-CHERKESSIA, January 26, Caucasus Times – Speaking with the readers of the regional “Komsomolskaya Pravda” in his hotline briefing, organized by the newspaper, President Batdiyev of Karachay-Cherkessia said he would not step down, refuting the rumors of his probable resignation.

Mr. Batdiyev said that he had not yet fulfilled all of his promises given to his supporters during the election campaign back in 2003.

Nevertheless, many in the republic were not convinced by the president’s argument as they see Mr. Batdiyev’s total failure in handling the problems facing the republic while he has been running the presidential office in a year and a half over.
